Born in Fiji, raised in New Zealand and formed musically in the dance music revolution of London in the late 90’s, FreQ Nasty started his career on the seminal UK label Botchit & Scarper in the late nineties, moving to SKINT Records in 2003 and has released a slew of cutting-edge records, collaborating with and remixing a diverse range of artists including Fatboy Slim, Kelis, KRS One, Roots Manuva, Rodney P, Santigold, and Reggae legend Junior Delgado. His “bass music” sound has seen him destroying dance floors for 3 decades and these days you can find him writing music, touring, teaching meditation and designing wearable speakers (you read that right) from his Southern California base.
He’s been down here in the Southern Hemisphere for the Earth Frequency Festival and a range of DJ dates, so Shan & OB got the lowdown about what he’s been doing lately and what it was like creating such a long lasting genre of bass music. The boys also drop 2 huge sets to compliment such a legend and open the show with a brand new track off the yet to be released album from Adelaide’s Inkswel featuring Kylie Auldist (The Bamboos) and N’fa Jones (1200 Techniques).
